BOOTCAMP: PR PUBS EDITION
Bootcamp.
Creative, graphic, information-on-steroids bootcamp.
I came out the other side with a basic foundation of InDesign and Photoshop, but I also have so much left to learn.
This week’s lesson was all about the introductory instructional videos, learning typesetting and getting familiarized with those two Adobe programs.
To get ready for the typesetting assignment I was first told to do a newspaper markup so I could learn what headlines, bylines, pull quotes, etc. are. THEN I made my very first InDesign project by adding those details to a pre-populated document.
The rest of the lesson was just about watching the lynda.com (anything and everything you’d ever want to know) and trying to follow along with the lesson files. There is definitely some emphasis on trying because although I did my best to follow along, it was very frustrating to feel like I have no control over the program and don’t know what most of the features do.
This holds true for most of what I learned to do. I started on the project and when I tried going back to it I would have to review all the features I had learned. More than that, it was difficult to start completely from scratch, with absolutely no prior knowledge. It was like learning a whole new language, which I actually have done before, and I had to remind myself it was okay to not get it right right away and that IT IS ALL ABOUT PRACTICE.
I can say one thing for sure after having finished bootcamp, I am excited to see how much more I can learn.
