Business Card & Letterhead Reflection
For this assignment, my PR Publications class was asked to choose a company and design a business card and a letterhead for that company. We have been working on these two items and all that goes into successfully making them for about two weeks now. Part of the process required us to evaluate our fellow classmates and provide feedbacks on their first draft of the business card.
When I first started, I really struggled with InDesign but the more that I have used it, the more that I am learning. The first draft of my business card was not exactly what I was going for so it was hard for me to accept it so I started over from the beginning. Once I watched more of the videos on the functions of InDesign (and googled how to do A LOT of things) I finish with a product that I was pretty content with.
Although I wish that what I created was exactly what I had imagined in my head, I still am not that skilled in Adobe workshops so it wasn’t quite possible. I am very glad that I figured out how to put the text all over the background of the card. I think that gives it a very different look and that is exactly what I wanted. I wish that I would have been able to put the OBI logo on this side of the card but even with my high resolution jpeg, it would not get rid of enough of the white in the background so it looked sloppy.
As hard as it is to admit, we all like for our things to come out exactly how we planned so we can say we know what we are doing. I think it is hard for me to admit that I don’t know how to edit to the background out of an image. I would say that usually I am a pretty tech savvy person but being as unfamiliar as I am with InDesign I was not able to figure this out in time. I do hope to keep working on my designs so that I can have them exactly the way that I want when I put them in my portfolio.
And as far as my letterhead and letter go, I just wanted to comment on why I chose to write about the content that I did. I did not use the real man’s name but I was working a blood drive at remington park the other day and a man really was eligible for his 13 gallon pin. Each time you donate blood, you have to wait 56 days in between. If you have donated 13 gallons in your life, that means you have donated 104 different times. That was so impressive to me so it inspired my letter. Just thought you should know why!
