Ch 1: Emotional Design

I really enjoyed reading the first chapter of Design for Emotions and can tell that I am going to learn a lot from it. I agreed heavily with the fact that we, as designers, are capable of going one step further with our designs rather than just making them functional or have them “just get the job done”. We have the ability to make people laugh, smile and feel good, and why wouldn’t we want to do that???

There honestly wasn’t anything in the first chapter that I didn’t agree with. Everything that was talked about made a whole lot of sense, especially talking about Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and relating it back to design. Yes, it is important to make our designs pleasurable, but they also have to be functional and usable for what they are meant for first.

I am excited to continue reading this book and to learn from it!
