Ch 6
For our last chapter blog post about Designing for Emotion by Aaron Walter, we were able to pick the chapter we wanted to write about. I chose the chapter regarding forgiveness, chapter 6.
Agree: There were many things throughout this chapter that I agreed with, but one point that the author made was about forgiveness when accidents or mishaps occur. One example he used was the Flickr outage that occurred in 2006. It is good to acknowledge that we live in an imperfect world and things do not always run smoothly. What matters most is how we prepare for the mishaps and how we recover from them. I think Flickr did a wonderful job maintaining customer satisfaction even though their site was down. They gave out free memberships to the winner of their contest. It was a great PR strategy to keep the customers happy and to keep their heads about water.
Disagree: I usually always find something to disagree with, but this chapter was honestly my favorite thus far. It was raw, honest, and eloquently stated. It stressed many PR ethical factors that we discuss in class often. I actually enjoyed this book and the author’s writing style. Good pick Croom!
