Chapter 1

When reading chapter 1 of Designing for Emotion, something that really stood out to me was that even though things are becoming easier and quicker to produce, such as web pages, there is a different path to take. “One paved by the artists, designers, and architects of the Arts and Crafts movement, who believed that preserving the human touch and showing ourselves in our work isn’t optional. It’s essential.” I really agreed with this because as someone who appreciates design, these things that are artistic and hand crafted are so much more intriguing than a cookie cutter “design.”

I don’t necessarily disagree with anything said in chapter 1, but I do think it gets a little deep into emotions and designing for humans. I understand that the consumer will have a better experience if it is a positive one, but sometimes people just need functionality and usability. If a site begins to take on a certain sense of humor or personality, so to speak, I could see where that wouldn’t be ideal for every consumer.
