Chapter 1- Designing for Emotion

This week in PR Pubs we were asked to design our first draft for our stakeholders and read chapter 1 in designing for emotion and comment on what we agree on and disagree on.

One of the things I agreed with in Chapter 1 is when he was talking about how interface must be reliable. He made many statements about how interface affects us as humans in today’s world that is centered around technology. I think this statement is very true. I get irritated sometimes when the internet or website is down or not working. Everything has been transported online, this is where I complete almost all of my homework and receive emails daily, so if it is not reliable I won’t be able to complete my work. This can affect what websites users use most often depending on how often they work or don’t work.

One statement I disagree with is “if emotional engagement compromises the functionality, reliability, or usability of an interface, the positive experience you wanted will mutate into rant- inducing disaster for you users.” I partly agree and partly disagree with this statement because it has many different components to it. I agree that you can’t compromise the functionality of your interface to match everyone else’s but I also don’t think changing these areas will cause a disaster for users. I think change is good, and it doesn’t always have to happen when everyone else does it.
