Chapter 1 Designing For Emotion

Chapter 1 of Designing for Emotion included a lot of interesting topics. One thing that stuck out to me instantly is when Walter tells us that we have the choice to follow a different path. A path that isn’t already set and stone but one that is paved by the artist, designers, and architects of Arts and Crafts movement. “Preserving the human touch and showing ourselves in our work isn’t optional. It’s essential.” I completely agree with this statement. I know when I work on a project and build it off my own thought and personality it creates something that brings out emotion. Like the book says emotional events stay in our memory bank longer. I have done a lot of projects in classes where I had to follow a strict set of rules and it didn’t mean anything to me because it wasn’t MINE. Maybe I just don’t like to follow the rules. On another note, I think a lot time people hold back on expressing themselves because they don’t want to get off the path that society has formed for us. But in reality, we all were created differently for a reason and we should use our weirdness to our advantage. Nobody ever stood out by blending in. I honestly can’t say there is anything in this chapter I disagree with I thought it contained a lot of insight. I also love the style of writing Aarron Walter uses.
