Chapter 1: Designing for Emotion

Within our public relations publications course we were required to read “Designing for Emotion,” and respond to chapter 1. Throughout the chapter there were tons of great points made regarding the internet and different ways it’s related to the workforce and how people use it differently now, but there were also a few aspect that didn’t resonate very well with me.

  1. I loved how the chapter spoke about the evolution of the internet within businesses and being used for different aspects. The internet used to be used for primarily business work in the office, and now we use it for practically everything from googling a place to eat, to sharing our pictures on social media. The internet can be used more for story telling through blogs, and keeping in contact with friends and family users aren’t able to see as often as they would like.
  2. One point I didn’t necessarily agree with was that the chapter stated people should spend less time online. While this is such a big debate within our society, I can’t say that I wholeheartedly agree with it. There are so many jobs that require individuals to constantly be on the internet, social media and other platforms and I see nothing wrong with that. If the concept were a little altered saying children shouldn’t be online as often then I would completely agree.
