Chapter 2

One takeaway from Chapter two was the “Twenty Secrets of Good Writing” section. I believe the tips are the foundation for writing effectively in Public Relations.

PRSA Member Code of Ethics is something I have heard a lot about since becoming a Public Relation’s student. Therefore, I find it important to know the PRSA Member of Code of Ethics because it will be the guideline to maintaining my career.

The last takeaways were puffing and the Federal Trade Commission. Puffing is an exaggerated claim and as Public Relation professionals we should always avoid puffing unless we want to run into trouble with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Since the FTC is responsible for monitoring false and misleading information it would be benefit me to keep in mind the FTC guidelines.

One thing that made me think of public relations in a new way is that our writing style will be an expression of who we are as a writer and person. The book really caught my attention when it asked me to think of my favorite musical artist or group. I know my favorite artist has a certain theme in all his music and that is why I like him. I never took the time to think about how the way I write can be a reflection of my own style and self.

The “Twenty Secrets of Good Writing” would also have to be most useful in my current writing. Hopefully as I become more experienced in writing, I will not have to refer back to the twenty tips and they will just come naturally.

The PRSA Member Code of Ethics would be most useful in my professional goals because in order to be a good Public Relation professional, I must know how to carry out those ethical responsibilities. I will never get the opportunity to continue to chase my professional goals if I don’t live out the PRSA professional values.
