Chapter 2: Designing for Emotion

In my public relations publications course we were asked to read the second chapter of “Designing for Emotion,” by Arron Walter, and reflect on things we agreed and disagreed with. The second chapter mainly focuses on emotions, and how they shape different elements of the designs we construct.

  1. I disagree with the idea that cognitive contrast help set brands and companies apart front he competition. While yes, contrast helps set brands apart, there is so much that plays into competition and distinction between different brands and companies and I don’t think that contest is one of the top contenders, although it is important.
  2. I agree with the idea that attractiveness helps people feel good about things. This can go for so many different aspects of public relations and design, as well as life, but in general if people feel as if they look attractive they have a stronger since of confidence. If I submit a design for one of my large projects that I feel is more appealing to the eye, I immediately feel better about my work and what I am capable of.
