Chapter 2 Designing For Emotion Analysis
This week, we were asked to read chapter 2 of Designing for Emotion. In our analysis, we were supposed to find one thing we agree with and one thing we disagree with.
The following excerpt is something from the chapter that I agree with:
“In fact, this is the primary goal of branding: to set your identity apart from your competitors’. When your brand clearly contrasts with others, your audience will easily identify it and remember it.”
I think this statement about brand contrast is very true. You have to begin to wonder why some brands are so successful, and I think the answer you need to look at is how they set themselves apart. They clearly have the idea in mind that they need to be unique in order to be successful.
The following excerpt is something form the chapter that I disagree with:
“Our brain’s vigilant scan for contrast drives our decision making process. It helps us decide where we should sit in a classroom (is one seat more advantageous than another?), where we should eat dinner (will one restaurant have better food than another?), and even who we should marry (is one mate more attractive than another?).”
The reason I disagree with this is because I feel like this meets more of a comparison definition. Yeah, there is contrast between these things, but we are ultimately comparing and outweighing options.
