Chapter 3 : Designing for Emotion
One major theme I agreed with in Chapter 3 of Designing for Emotion was that our innate human reaction for the relationship between emotion and design derives from birth. Chapter 3 explains how the relationship between design and emotion is tightly linked to our memory. In other words, when we associate certain colors with happiness or calm peacefulness, the reason for these reactions may be linked to our parents either wearing these certain colors while nurturing us or from some other happy memory we hold subconsciously deep within our memories.
However, one part of Chapter 3 I did not agree with was that wit cannot be used in all situations. For example, Chapter 3, page 86, discusses how wit cannot be used when dealing with serious situations or themes. I disagree because, personally, I think the connotation of the word “wit” is not only linked to humor, but can also be associated with creative or clever thinking – which is certainly needed when dealing with any situation.
