Chapter 3: Designing for Emotion
Within the public relations publications course we are asked to read and reflect on the book “Designing for Emotion.” We are then asked to write one thing we agree with and one thing we do not agree with.
- In chapter three, the author stresses the importance of having an element within your design that connects with the person reading or looking at it. By having something that the reader can relate or connect with within your design, you’re creating an immediate bond and the reader might be biased in your favor and enjoy your graphic/site/etc. I agree that this is important when it comes to designing and I find myself enjoying graphics or sites that I can relate with.
- One thing I disagree with is the author’s example of an elaborate and extravagant website with colorful, insane graphics drawing in people and then tailoring it to their liking, like on Carbonmade.com. When I went to Carbonmade.com I found it to be too clunky and distracting, and it didn’t draw me in at all so I don’t agree that more is more in this case because it didn’t make me want to sign up.
