Chapter 3 of Designing for Emotion
This week I was assigned to read the third chapter of Arron Walter’s book Designing for Emotion. As usual, I was asked to give my opinion on one thing I agreed with the author on, and one thing that I disagreed with. The third chapter of the book is titled “Personality,” and talks about how if a designer does their job correctly, the design will reflect a personality. One thing I especially agree with is that we should design a project with the audience in mind. How we want them to feel and react to our product should influence what we create. One thing I do not entirely agree with Mr. Walter on is the personality map. He says that personalities can be measured on a X (friendly/unfriendly) and Y (dominant/submissive) scale, but I believe that personalities should be measured on much more than that. Personalities vary drastically and I do not think that this would accurately measure a person’s personality. More factors should be used in the map. Overall, I found this chapter to be very interesting to read!
