Chapter 4

When reading chapter 4, “Emotional Engagement” of Designing for Emotion,  I felt like it was extremely insightful and had a lot of support to back up the ideas and topics. I really enjoyed and agreed with almost everything in this chapter because appealing to a users emotion clearly creates a relationship between the user and the site. Priming is an extremely useful way to get users and consumers to feel a certain way about a site or a brand.

I don’t necessarily disagree with the book about this, because it mentions it towards the end of the chapter, but I do think sometimes the emotion and the personality in the site won’t always please the user. Some people might just want simplicity with nothing extra or fun (as boring as that sounds). Especially with a site people might use for their work, they could see a tiny talking chimp as a silly annoying distraction even if it’s not flying across the screen and spitting out site info.
