Chapter 4

I agree that surprise amplifies our emotional response and can make things seem more enjoyable. I can recall several surprises I have had in life because of the emotions that ran through me while I was experiencing that surprise. For example, I had one birthday where my friends got together and threw me a surprise party which I still can remember exactly what my reaction was. Whereas the birthday’s where I anticipated having dinner with friends later on that day didn’t really intense my reaction to the event.

One thing I disagree with in Chapter 4 is that when forced to change people often react in a negative way. Even though this is true in some cases it is not for all. I think that when websites like Facebook force users to change it ends up being beneficial in the long run because everyone stays on the same page. Whereas sites like Twitter that gives users the “may change” option could end up leaving some people in the dust and left out. Eventually those users are going to have to adapt to the new version whether they like it or not.
