Chapter 4 Response

I am a Trump fan so instantly my first takeaway was when they used Trump as an example in research. It is interesting to know that Trump spent a lot of time researching whenever he first started out as a businessman. The research effort he puts in toward a potential deal has helped him move along at a faster pace. Even though I have always thought of research as boring this example shows that good research pays off to your benefit.

The second takeaway was secondary sources. I find this useful because secondary sources provide background information done by others that can help your general understanding. You can use the Internet so this makes it a convenient way to gather up some details about your subject.

The last takeaway was the use of primary research. This is data YOU have to gather firsthand from people who are well educated on subject you are researching. For example, primary research can be gathered by asking a company’s marketing manager some questions about your product.

I found the section over interviews to be the most useful for my profession. Interviews are vital during research because you can gather in-depth information. The interview portion also lays out the steps for you to do before, during, and after an interview. I found constructing questionnaires most applicable to my current writing because it tells you how to organize a questionnaire. To continue, the section gives you information on when to use open-ended questions vs. close-ended questions and the do’s and don’ts. What made me think about Public Relations in a new way is that there are a lot of different research methods that can be used to gather more information.
