Chapter 6 – Designing for Emotion

This week for class, we got to choose what chapter we wanted to read in Designing for Emotion. So, I chose the Chapter 6  titled “Forgiveness.” I had two reasons for choosing this chapter. 1) Its title was intriguing to me. My initial thoughts were along this lines of: “forgiveness,  for what?” “What is this booking trying to say?” “Is this a sign?” and 2) this chapter was the shortest and I was feeling lazy (am I allowed to say that?) After I read the chapter, “Forgiveness” started to make sense. It is all about creating a strong bond between you and your users/viewers so when you mess up, they forgive you. The chapter gave an example of the company Flickr and how they turned a website malfunction into a creative/fun contest. This tactic made users forget about the malfunction and focus on the contest. I agree with this chapter because I think it is important to create strong bonds with your users/viewers. One thing I disagree with, is that you can’t hold a contest for every mess up, so it is important to say on top of your designs or you will lose your followers.
