Chapter 6 Forgiveness
Designing for Emotion chapter 6 talks about forgiveness. It is true that not every website is perfect. There are going to be several times were there is a malfunction with something or a server may go down. This chapter talks about how to address issues like these.
“So long as the good outweighs the bad, you win. That’s why you must accrue goodwill as an insurance policy for the problems that are certain to occur.” I agree with this statement. If you make light of a bad situation it will help your audience to get over this little mishap. Help the audience to understand and make a bad situation good. Flickr was an example the book gave about how they took a bad situation and turned it into a good response.
“Psychologists call this phenomenon of positive recollection the rosy effect. As time passes, memories of inconveniences and transgressions fade, leaving only positive memories to shape our perceptions.” I somewhat disagree on this statement. I think that if there were multiple inconveniences and transgressions they wouldn’t fade. I guess I hold onto grudges but I have had several bad experiences with food business’ and after my third I just refuse to go back. I don’t forget and keep putting myself in a situation to get burned again.
