Chapter 7

The very first paragraph of chapter 7 in Designing for Emotion got my attention, “An emotional response to your design is far better than indifference” UM YES. With anything we do there is always a risk with how people would react, but the emotion it can bring outweighs the risks.

I really like when the book stated “If people complain about how your product, service, or brand are unlike your competitors’, then you’re doing something right.” Standing out is the first step into getting the people’s attention. Being unique will allow the brand to expand and really become what they want to be.

Although risk is good, I think that sometimes there is a gut feeling that one should follow when a design is too risky. The book says that even if your boss thinks something is too risky “you need to be ready with case studies and an action plan that will make even the staunchest skeptic see that your ideas are good for the bottom line.” Sometimes a risk can be too risky in which can have an even worse outcome. Statistics may not always the backup needed to follow through with a project.
