Chapter One: Designing For Emotion
Wow I can already tell that I am going to enjoy reading “Designing For Emotion” by Aarron Walter. The way Walter phrases his text and gives real examples helps me understand the content both more clearly and thoroughly. While reading chapter one, I found myself laughing out loud (which never happens when you read a school textbook…) I loved how Walter gave us history on technology throughout the ages and emphasized the importance of emotions and personality in our web designs. After reading chapter one, it made me excited to put my own personal touch on my future projects.
In chapter one, I agreed that “positive emotional stimuli” in web design allow you to connect with your users and make the experience feel more like a chat with an old friend. I agree that companies that have a more personal style/positive design tend to have a greater “loyal advocates community” online.
There weren’t many things that I found myself disagreeing with in chapter one of our book. The only thing I could think of that I disagreed with is that not everyone feels the same connection with a hand-made item verse a technology-made item. I personally prefer hand-made items hands down. In contrast, some people I know could care less if the item was made via robot or from someone halfway across the world.
Overall, I really enjoyed chapter one and I am excited to continue reading this book throughout the remaining of the semester.
