Chapter one Designing for Emotion
For my PR Publications class we are reading Designing For Emotion by Aarron Walter. After reading chapter 1, I have learned concepts of design that were foreign to me beforehand.
1. What is one thing in Chapter 1 that you agree with?
I agree with Walter’s view on how Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs plays a role in designing interfaces. We want sites to be first off functional and reliable but once we can use them efficiently, we want pleasure and to feel some sort of physiological satisfaction.
2. What is one thing in Chapter 1 you disagree with?
Walter states how websites and web apps are “realizing that more people sign up for their service, stay on their site, and buy more stuff if they transcend usable to create a pleasurable experiences,”( Walter, 2011). I do agree with this statement but also think there is another angle to be brought up. In today’s day and age it is almost like people feel as though it is their “duty” to be on certain sites. Yes, they enjoy it to some extent but also “FOMO” is dictating what sites people use as well.
