Chapter One DFE Review

The second assignment for my public relations publications course for this week was to read the first chapter of Designing for Emotion (written by Aarron Walter). We were then to answer the following questions.

1. What is one thing in Chapter 1 that you agree with?

I thought it was truly interesting when the author discussed transforming himself from describing his business as “we” to creating his own personality. Especially in today’s marketplace that is the Internet, it is important to make a name for yourself and for your design. I also agree with having a functional interface. I get so frustrated when I go to a certain site and can’t accomplish what I was sent there to do.

2. What is one thing in Chapter 1 you disagree with?

While reading about emotion, I thought about websites that get too personal and emotional. This is sometimes a turnoff to me and could be to others, too. Also, putting your own emotions out for everyone to see may not be the best way to reach certain audiences. It’s a sensitive balance between too much and too little emotion in design.
