Chapter One of Designing for Emotion
After reading Chapter one of Designing for Emotion, I found many points that I agreed with and a few that I did not agree with.
I definitely agreed with the author when he spoke about how the Internet started as a very formal place that was only used for the workplace but has now taken a turn to a social media crazed, communication based web that has allowed people to communicate with anyone in a more friendly manner. More people became personable and began speaking to one another as friends instead of colleges or strangers. The author also makes the point that the amount of time spent on the web for communication should be less, which I completely agree with because I believe people should spend more time living their lives in person and not behind a screen even if it is in a friendly manner or not.
One of the only statements I disagreed with is the way the author described the way emotional engagements will compromise the functionality and reliability of an interface. Change is not always a bad thing, and can be used to help change the minds of people for the better and I believe wouldn’t cause a disaster for users.
