Chapter Three: Personality
Chapter Three in “Designing For Emotion” by Aaron Walter was about personality and design. Walter descirbed how personality greatly influences our decision-making process. He explained how personality drives emotional connections and that the primary design goal is to create a “human to human connection.” Walter provided examples of how designs in the past reflected human personalities and made a deeper connection with the consumers and thier products. He also explained the importance of personas and making your websites feel like an actual human. The chapter was very interesting and informative. After reading about personality and design, I decided to change a few aspects on my direct mailer assignment. I decided to go with the more “girly approach” and add pictures/information on the back.
I agreed with Walter when he stated there is “no one size fits all” solution. Everyone is different and is drawn to different personalities/designs. That is what makes us all unique!
I did not find much to disagree with in this chapter. The only part I could slightly disagree with is that people will notice “inauthentic personality” on web designs. I personally do not think that everyone will notice these things. I believe this because some people simply get on the web to gain the information they need and then sign off.
Overall, I really enjoyed the chapter. Learning about personality and web design made me rethink my project and appreciate the design process on a deeper level.
