Chp 6 Designing for Emotion
Chapter 6 of designing for emotion focuses on how to handle adviser situations with your audience or publics. In an age that relies so heavily on technology, it can be scary when things go wrong because it is often out of your control. The examples provided in the chapter of how big corporations made the best of their situations were creative and innovative.
One example, Flickr, responded to a sight failure in 2006 bt creating a “coloring contest” for users to win free pro account. This occupied users with a fun activity as opposed tot he frustration of a site failure. one thing that found really interesting is that he doesn’t credit the PR team for the success, but the sights designers for building empathy in the brand over the years. A well designed site can help when things go awry because users have an inherent trust for the brand.
I think that Walter does give the designers too much credit, and not enough to the PR team. For me, it should be about equal weight, because a brand cannot be successful and build trust without both.
