Come One, Come All– There’s a Place for yOU
For this reflection, I’m going to be discussing my experience with identifying and segmenting my stakeholder, as well as analyzing my initial design for the direct mailer.
I decided to make my stakeholder relatively more specific as I worked on the segmenting stakeholders matrix– I wanted to target girls specifically, instead of boys. OU is a very Greek-oriented school from the outside looking in, and I wanted high school girls to know that there are plenty of other organizations to join other than sororities (ironic, since the client of my last assignment was my personal Greek organization). When I first was accepted to OU, I definitely did not want to join a sorority, but I wasn’t sure what was out there for me to belong to. By filling out the extensive stakeholders matrix, I realized I could make my stakeholder more specific and therefore target the direct mailer more specifically.
The work on the direct mailer is vague, but I have a clear goal in mind– I want to layer the grid with images from as many organizations as I can, in order to showcase the multitude of options available to students who want to get involved with their university. The temporary headline to the bottom right is “There’s a Place for yOU” until I can come up with something better (possibly). I want the direct mailer to reflect an inclusive and welcoming tone, while also emphasizing the involvement on campus. So far I’m feeling confident about my direction; I think it responds to the worries and questions of my stakeholders who may be too nervous to send that inquisitive email to their freshman advisers. It also assures parents that their child will find their place at a university that may seem intimidating.
