Communication Strategy
For this blog post, we were asked to think about new ideas for our organization’s business card as we consider the following questions:
What kind of visual language will you use?
For a Carnival business card, I would use less visual language, and more visuals. I would consider putting the company slogan on the back of the card, but in general, I wouldn’t use as much visual language.
Will the visuals be type or image driven?
A Carnival business card should be image-driven. I think that since Carnival is a cruise line, many people picture a relaxing day at the beach. I believe that the business card needs to have some type of beach, palm tree or anything beach-related somewhere on the card.
In my mind, I am picturing a business card that has the entire background as a beach, and white type across the water.
The second idea I had would be to have a simple business card on the front, and have a picture of the actual cruise ship on the back. I think that if it showed the waterslides and pools, that it would get the “fun vacation” message across.
Another one of my ideas is having a blue card with red and white type (Carnival’s colors). I would include the logo and maybe a white silhouette of a palm tree on the back. This can also include the company slogan: “Fun for all, all for fun.” Okay, I know that sounds as boring as watching grass grow, but hey, it’s an idea!
What do the type and images need to mean?
The type needs to communicate the contact information in an easy-to-read format. I think that I will also include Carnival’s slogan somewhere on the business card to show what the business is all about! The images need to represent a fun and easy-going vacation.
What connotations do they need to have?
I think the Carnival business card should give a laid-back connotation to implement the fun of a Carnival cruise. I believe that a plain business card that’s type-driven will not give off the “fun vacation” experience that I’m looking for, which is why I need to make the card image-driven.
