Competitor Analysis

Another way in which I will begin to understand Destination Blank better is to run a competitor analysis. This is a very important part of the design process that will let me know which direction I need to take my organization in and why. DB differs from its competitors because it offers my view or my intentionally collected research on various topics, segments and pieces that connect with with other blogs and friends. DB’s image and message should differ from it’s competitors because it should be a unique brand that does not replicate the common “traveling” stereotypes of images and terms, such as backpacking, airplanes and mountains, etc. While these can be used, DB’s message should also include new outlooks on traveling and how to promote it. Travel is a huge industry and the amount of travel bloggers is mind-blowing, but there is such a demand for travel that I think DB has potential to reach out to various audiences.

Here is a Pintrest Board I created to help me visualize these competitors. On it, you will see various adds linked to travel blogs and posts. You will also find some images I uploaded from the internet about travel business cards, postcards, and use of design.

Something interesting I came across was the use of graphics in travel promotion. Photography is so commonly used in the travel industry that advertisements using graphics stood out and gave the travel company, logo or ad a very different feeling than a digital photo.
