Concepts of Design
There are several design concepts; Color, typography, metaphors, minimalism, form, balance, rhythm, proportion, dominance and unity. These concepts, is applied correctly can be applied to create pieces that have a big and memorable impact.
The use of metaphors or symbols is a great way to reach a viewer on a deeper level. If the viewer is able to understand the message, it can really make an impact on him/her. This album cover of goodbye has a hand print for the sing “Goodbye” and can be interpreted in a number of ways. It could be taken as the hand print has the person that is gone or as simple as the goodbye itself.
Contrast is really important into making sure a certain subject stands out. One way to do this is use color .
The emphasis on Jay Mac in different font and color really made a bold statement and had a big contrast from the words below. It made it definitely noticeable.
Pictured below is an excellent representation of typography and relating it to an image. The cursive font helps enhance that “fanciness” of the Gaylord Prize and helps it appear prestigious. Typography has the ability to change someone’s perspective of how they view something.

Alignment is i
important because depending on whether it is done right or wrong, it can really help the viewer read and understand it better. Below shows an example of how alignment was used to focus on each individual and provide their details. Another way that they could have possibly done this would be to have it align from the left instead of the right because of the way people read, from left to right. Even though the original still looks good, that small adjustment could create a large improveme
nt.
Simplicity is a very popular trend right now. It presents a super simple format and look all while looking nice and clean. It creates a very “modern” look. The image to the right shows how such a simplistic approach can still create a great image. It only has 3 colors of white, black, and red and two feathers.
These were 5 types of design out of the many that there are. These concepts allow for your work to look the best they can. Maybe there are more concepts, keep on designing to find out.
