Defining My Stakeholder

For our assignment we were asked to define two target stakeholders for creating direct mailers for from OU Recruitment Services. We were asked to be more specific so that our messages would be tailored directly towards the specific audience.

  • 1: Middle Eastern male students, high school graduates, national merit scholars, have not chosen a school, accepted into OU

My first target stakeholder is Middle Eastern national merit scholar male students who applied and were accepted into OU. While I am not aware of the level of interest my stakeholder possesses, I can infer that he is somewhat interested if he applied. I would highlight the specific program types available at OU, and the types of jobs available internationally upon OU graduation. I would focus on success stories from international OU graduates who now work in different fields. I would describe the benefits of an international education, and inform them about OU’s international programs and services for students. I would highlight some of OU’s student leaders with international backgrounds, showing how students are not only successful but happy to attend OU. Highlighting the relational aspects of the university is important for international students to know they will be welcomed and feel part of the OU culture. I would want to emphasize the diversity aspects of OU and the amount of international students who study abroad. Lastly I would emphasize the scholarships available to international students and direct them to the OU website for information.

  • 2: 17-19 years of age, Out-of-state urban inhabitants, above average ACT/SAT scores, $45,000 income

For my second stakeholder I would emphasize the scholarships and loans available for students. I would not want them to be intimidated by the out-of-state costs for a student, by showing them the specific types of scholarships available and how much those scholarships are worth. I would emphasize the success our university sees in these students, whose high scores may be reflective of highly-motivated, dedicated individuals. I would highlight the programs available at OU and how students were successful at getting jobs upon graduation. The faculty and staff available for students to help them succeed are an important factor I would describe. I would also show these students the different organizations available at OU, including Sooners Helping Sooners and other relational organizations. I want to emphasize the familial traits of OU that encourage students and faculty to help each other to succeed, rather than students having to do it all on their own.
