Design Blitz
In this unit “Lets Talk Design” I have really enjoyed becoming familiar with design elements. I think all individuals can describe what they believe is aesthetically pleasing, but we do not always know why. This unit has given me the knowledge and tools to be able to explain why some designs are preferable over others.
Typography
Above is a image I saw around campus that publicizes a event that happened two weekend ago. I thought it was a good example of typography because there is the counterposition of the san-serif font and the more cursive font. They are both pleasing to the eye, but when combined really capture ones attention. All of the important information seems to be in a helvetica style font. There is the contract of size and capitalizing as well as the boldness of “Balloon Lift” to allow the even to stand out. The most important information, when it is happening, is in the center of the image in a different font than all of the others. This allows “sunday” to be stuck in your mind.
Color
The use of color here really allows the poster to stand out without being overwhelming. The colors blue and yellow do not stand close to each other on the color wheel, making them complimentary. These colors follow a color scheme of blue (dark and light,) yellow and white allowing there to be a theme while also attracting the eye to all the individual displays in the single poster.
Metaphor and Symbol
This image uses the torch as a symbol. At first when you read the poster you see a lot of events, you see the words “Campus Activities Council” alluding to it being a organization, probably leadership based. This symbol of the torch is used in ancient Greece with the idea of “passing the torch” giving me reason to believe that this torch maybe a metaphor in the writing as well.
Proportion
This image is well proportioned because not only are all the boxes in the center and at the top and bottom the same size but every single item on the page seems to be able to be pieced a part. This shows good proportion in the design because everything is easily visible because of the proportion as well as well organized.
Balance
The balance in this image is seen in the text. On the left side all the text is pushed to the left where on the right the type is pushed to the right. This balance is a small detail that makes a huge difference in the visual of the image. Instead of making the items centered, the text is evenly distributed.
