Yes, most of these photos are of myself. This was more of a convenience factor, I promise I am not this self-obsessed. A couple of friends and I recently had a “photo shoot” for our LinkedIn accounts and professional portfolios. When I was looking at the photos I realized they exemplified some of the design concepts we learned about in class.

Color

I believe colors are one of the most important parts of a photograph. When I was a freshman at OU, I wrote a paper about the importance of colors in advertisements and the influence colors have on our emotions. Due to social influences, colors can trigger emotions as well as make brands recognizable. This photo shows how quickly the eye is drawn to an unexpected color. The rest of the photo is pretty bland, it goes together, but that blue dress very much sticks out and therefore draws attention to myself.

Dominance

Design BlitzIf a part of a photo sticks out more, it attracts attention either because it is larger or because it is closer, that is dominance. I chose this photo because you can see Gaylord behind me. You can tell exactly where I am on campus but my face dominates the photo and your eye is first drawn to that.

Typography

To exemplify typography I used a Snapchat of myself taken during finals week (hence why I felt I needed to hug the dog). I believe Snapchat can show typography because it adds another layer to the photo. You can explain what is going on in the photo or tell people what you want them to get from the photo, rather than leaving it up for interpretation.

Minimalism and Use of Space

Design BlitzI used my friend Kelsey in this photo because I was tired of seeing my own face. I believe this is an example of “use of space” because Kelsey is positioned in a way that she takes up the entire photo but it does not look out of place.

She is the centerpiece of the photo and there is no need to add extra objects in the back or have any empty space. We wanted her to be the focus and she obviously is.

Proportion

Design BlitzI thought this photo is a good example of proportion because it compares my size to the building’s. You can tell I am the subject of the photo but I am still much smaller than Evans Hall behind me. One would not think very much of the building’s size if they just saw a picture of it on campus but when you put a person next to the building you can recognize how tall it is.
