Design for Emotion

The Importance of Human Touch in Art

This week as part of our class project for designing direct mailers, we were asked to read Design for Emotion.

Chapter one was very compelling because it explained the transformation of the arts and crafts as the manufacturing era came along. I think this is a change that continues to happen as new technology continues to come.Craftsman at the time were replaced with machines that could produce triple the product.

However, like the book covered, no matter what kind of technology is provided, the human touch still has an element that can never be eliminated: passion. With passion comes history and emotion within each design.

I think that this also ties along with any profession. In public relations for example, one must have passion to defend campaigns or creative ideas that someone working in the corporate world is often times oblivious to the need.

“To engage your audience emotionally, you must let your brand’s personality show.”  This was one of my favorite quotes form this first chapter. I liked it because it covered the importance of both creativity and knowledge of the stakeholders. One must know how to create an emotional connection to the brand, but one must also never forget that it is through human creativity that we are able to connect with our audience.
