Designing for Emotion
These are Riley’s islands of personality from Disney Pixar’s Inside Out. And the little people looking at the islands are Riley’s emotions. Each emotion has it’s job in creating memories for Riley. Memories make up who Riley is.
In yet another genius motion picture, Pixar creates a great example of the design element of emotion that is discussed in Walter’s text. This week’s reading provided an overview of looking at how to design content to reach emotions. We learned that the content needs to have a personality that people can react to. In order to get reactions from the right audience, you much understand their personalities and know what meets their needs and wants in design. Just like Riley in the movie, the emotions make up our audience. We must determine the audience’s islands of personality.
(Maybe this comparison was a little too out there, but it’s a great movie and you should all see it! Plus Pixar seems to design for allll of my emotions.)
