Designing for Emotion

This week in Pubs we got the opportunity to read chapter one of Designing for Emotion written by Aaron Walter. This chapter focused on the concept that a person will be more successful in their marketing, advertising, or any other creative business techniques if they focus on getting an emotional response. Customers will stay longer, buy often and enjoy more.

One thing that I agreed with in this chapter is on page 12 when John Medina in his book Brain Rules stated, “Emotional charged events persists much longer in our memories and are recalled with greater accuracy than neutral memories.” I find this spot on because I believe that it’s not how long you live it’s how much you live. So if translated into design, it’s important to connect to people on an emotional stance so that they recall your work and remember your company or organization.

I’m honestly having a hard time finding something that I don’t agree with in this chapter. Everything he says is logical, backed up by scholars before him and overall makes a lot of sense.
