Designing for Emotion, C H A P T E R T H R E E

In Chapter 3 of Designing for Emotion by Aarron Walter we explored the power of personality. The further into this book I get the more I enjoy it. So much of it is common sense but the way he explains it is not only eloquent but makes you think. My favorite part of the chapter was in the beginning when he was explaining that he doesn’t like the name Human-Computer Interaction. I instantly thought that I too hated the name and I love his tie in that names shape our perception and cue ideas that fit into that category. I think it shows how much personality can be in things we don’t think of. Names, cars, objects, and of course design. I also liked the persona section because creating personas is something I did a lot in my Social Media Marketing class. However, I feel like he failed to address that a persona could be both button-up and funny. He seems to like the extremes, or the contrasts rather (like we learned in the last chapter) but doesn’t always address that they can co-exist.
