Designing for Emotion, C H A P T E R T W O
In the book Designing for Emotion by Aarron Walter I am beginning to see more of his personality and writing style. Chapter Two is written in a really engaging way. He shares personal stories about his child, speeding tickets, and gives specific relatable examples. I agreed with most everything he said, but one thing that stuck out to me was the baby face bias. Meaning that when you see a company, like Twitter, with a cute logo you are more likely to create a connection with that company. I think he could have even taken this baby face bias a step further. He argues that if a baby is cute it makes the all the hard work to raise the child worth it. In the same way I think if a site is aesthetically pleasing (beyond just a cute logo) it will be more worth it to the viewer to stick around. I disagreed with his limited processor paragraph, or rather I just feel like he failed to address that sometimes, to keep consistent with the theme or tone of the company, a design may be implemented with a lot of intentional noise. Overall, I am truly loving the book and learning a lot.
