Designing for Emotion: Ch. 2
I found this chapter really interesting because it was talking about practical ways that designers play on their consumers emotions and how we, as humans, are hard-wired at birth. From the baby face bias to the way we perceive contrast, there was a lot in this chapter that revealed how we perceive design and what appeals to us.
This chapter used Apple as an example of good design. I would 100% agree with this because Apple’s easy-to-use interface design is what makes them so successful. By being consistent and user-friendly, they have been able to command the technology market.
I didn’t quite understand the golden ratio principle that it was talking about with the redesigned Twitter website. I don’t know how it correlates to the human form, but I would agree with the fact that it is designed well.
Overall, I learned a lot that I had previously been oblivious to. I guess I thought that websites and designs were just randomly created and they happened to be appealing to consumers, but I realize now that that is naive. Careful research and calculation goes into almost every design we see, and it is up to us, as consumers, to decide if the designers were successful.
