Designing for Emotion: Ch. 2
This week’s reading form Designing for Emotion, Chapter 2, discussed designing web pages for audiences based on their emotion. I agreed with most of what the chapter explained in the sense that I too believe that the best way to reach a target audience is through emotional appeal. I think that publics are most enticed by visual appeals which display either a product or service in the best light.
One aspect I did not agree about from the chapter was the fact that the chapter seemed to lead readers into thinking that appealing to the emotions of an audience through design was the only emotional appeal which would prove successful. I think designing for emotion is very important, but designers should also keep in mind that a lot of the public will also want design supplemented with heavy and critical analysis of a product and statistical evidence so advertising does not just look like “fluff”.
