Designing for Emotion Ch. 4: Personality
This chapter talked about and provided many examples of how interfaces and programs can provide the consumer with a personality in order to connect to its audience. If a designer’s job is done well, it will seem like the computer has fallen into the background and that it s a human-to-human interaction that the consumer is experiencing. I agree with this notion that people like people, not machines. It makes the consumer feel more valued than if they were dealing with an emotionless robot.
I particularly liked Carbonmade’s example of their over-the-top personality at the beginning, but it being completely removed when it came to the user’s final product. I think it’s important to have a personality, but to not have it interfere with the actual functionality of the interface or program.
