Designing for Emotion – Ch. 4
This week in my PR Pubs class we were asked to read Designing for Emotion chapter 4. This chapter was about emotional engagement. In this chapter, we were asked to talk about one thing that we agreed with and one thing we disagreed with.
The one thing that I agreed with the most in the chapter is what it says about anticipation. I believe that anticipation can really build and become a big form of excitement. For example, whenever Apple announces that they are going to release a new or improved device, the anticipation builds and people get so excited. People love to anticipate things. People love to look forward to new and better devices. It is part of our nature.
the thing that I disagreed with the most in the chapter is how it seemed to love the fact the Wufoo cut its entire marketing budget. I don’t think this is ever a good idea. I guess it worked for them, but I think that marketing and advertising are both very essential to most businesses. I might be slightly biased because this will be my job someday or something similar, but I don’t think it is a good idea to encourage other businesses to the same. I wonder how much better Wufoo could be with marketing or advertising. However, their hand-written letters are similar to the marketing and I believe it does similar work with a different name.
