Designing for Emotion: Chapter 1

For my PR Publications course at OU, we were asked to read chapter one of the book Designing for Emotion by Arron Walter. One thing that I agree with in this chapter is that it is important to incorporate personality into your designs. By doing this, the viewer is able to get a better understanding of who you are and what you like. I do think that if you are creating a design for someone else, then you should try to incorporate their personality into the project and not your own. Something that I did not totally agree with from chapter one is how big of a role emotion plays in your design. Yes, if you are purposely trying to extract a certain emotion from someone than it is probably important. But the author kept referring to websites, which I do not think need to be designed for emotions. People usually go to websites to find something they are looking for, such as information or a product, and trying to evoke an emotion from this person will probably not work.
