Designing for Emotion: Chapter 1
For this weeks lesson, Professor Croom instructed us to read Chapter 1 of Designing for Emotion and write a blog post about our likes and dislikes of the chapter.
One thing I agree with is that design needs to be functional, reliable, usable and pleasurable. I like how the book talks about how humans respond more positively when a software or activity comes easy to them. In my experience, I enjoy when I can easily navigate a website and the design (color, fonts, pictures) is appealing. It increases my likeliness of revisiting the website and showing more interest in the organization.
While having a fun, reliable and navigational website is a plus I don’t agree that incorporating personality into everything is necessary. Some design products, whether it be a postcard, website, software, advertisement, need to be straight forward to avoid confusing the user. Simple design efforts can be more appreciate for over complex designs when users are looking to get the job done.
