Designing for Emotion Chapter 1

This week in PR Publications, Lesson 3.1 asked us to define stakeholders, create our stakeholder’s Segmenting Stakeholders Matrix, design our first draft of our direct mailer and to read Chapter 1 in Designing for Emotion.

One statement that I agreed with in Chapter 1 was on page 6, “For a user’s needs to be met, an interface must be functional.” For me, whenever my internet isn’t working or certain websites fail to load, I get super annoyed. I work with what I have for a few minutes, then honestly I will just quit the application and give up. This is because I am very, very impatient when it comes to technology, and I need to learn to be more patient in the future.

One statement that I disagreed with in Chapter 1 was on page 11, “Emotionally charged events persist much longer in our memories and are recalled with greater accuracy then neutral memories.” I disagree with this statement because there are many emotional things that I have gone through in my life that now seem to be a blur. These negative experiences that had affected me so much at the time seem like they never happened. I think that as life goes on, our memory fades. Positive and negative memories eventually all become a blur as we create new memories.
