Designing for Emotion: Chapter 1
Hello!
After we completed our stakeholder matrix table and the first draft of our direct mailers, we were asked to read chapter 1 of Designing for Emotion. I really enjoyed reading this chapter and feel like I learned a lot from it. After we read the chapter we were asked to respond to the following questions:
What is one thing in Chapter 1 that you agree with?
One thing that I agree with from chapter 1 is basing your designs to appeal to human emotions. This was used when discussing the Wufoo app, which uses a colorful and happy design on their website rather than a dull and boring one. I thought this was a great idea! Honestly, anyone can have a website, but by using colorful and happy designs is sure to make yours stand out from the rest. I figured I should look into this website, and I was not disappointed! This website definitely shows personality and engages those who visit the site.
What is one thing in Chapter 2 that you disagree with?
One thing that I disagree with from chapter 2 is focusing way too much on the designing side, rather than the text side. I think that while a good design is important, having a good message is also important. Of course a website can look amazing, but without text, there is no real content to the site. I believe that using designs are not the only way to portray emotion, but using the text as well. Additionally, text can also help with the exact message you are trying to promote. Overall, I think that while I will continue to “design for emotion,” I will also continue to “write” for emotion as well!
