Designing for Emotion Chapter 2

I have just read Chapter 2 of Designing for Emotion and found it pretty fascinating. This text has opened my eyes to how much influence design and emotion have on each other. Beforehand, I thought something was appealing because of the color or layout! Now I realize that there is so much that goes into a design. I agree with the text when the author explains how a “cute” mascot or logo makes a difference. I believe it does make an impression on the viewer, whether it’s good or bad. It makes the brand memorable, which usually works in the brand’s favor.

I disagree when the author says that architecture is influenced by emotion. I have never felt personally attracted to architecture because of the layout; instead, I’m focused on the memories within that building or structure. Faces are more attractive to the viewer in my opinion. If a human can connect with another human or animal, that is probably the most preferred connection. The chapters in Designing for Emotion bring up some good points that I hadn’t considered before. I hope I can use what I’m learning toward creating better and more influential pieces.
