Designing for Emotion Chapter 2
Chapter two really focused on us as humans and how certain things affect our thinking. I found this chapter to be really interesting because it caused me to stop and think about things that I had never noticed before until the book so obviously pointed them out.
In the chapter the book talked about as humans we have a baby-face bias. Which essentially means as adults when we see babies evolution has taught us to trigger positive emotions when we see a baby. The book talks about how baby’s features- large eyes, small nose, and a pronounced forehead, cause are brains to recognize them as special. Faces with these features are often thought as innocent, lovable, cute. Like the book said “we are wired to love babies”. As the chapter goes on it talks more because we love babies often times characters in animation movies, cartoons, stuffed animals ect. are given these features to make us automatically like them. Once the book pointed this out I really agree with this statement. If you go back and look at any Disney character that you love, you will notice they have rather large eyes and a small noise. Coincidence? I think not.
To be completely honest there wasn’t anything in this chapter I disagreed with. I found everything that was said to be really insightful and really interesting to read. I know this is probably not the answer everyone is wanting but I genuinely loved this chapter and everything it had to say.
