Designing for Emotion Chapter 2: Review
Hello again!
This week in my PR Publications class we were asked to read and discuss the second chapter of “Designing for Emotion” by Aarron Walter. In this chapter, he wrote about designing for humans, and in essence, designing for the emotions of humans.
In this chapter, on thing that I loved was the idea of contrast. Whether it be visual or emotional, designed or intuitive, contrast draws attention of the viewer and creates a lasting impression. The use of a bold color or design against white space is a representation of contrast. In fact, minimalistic design integrates the use of contrast as its primary tool.
However, I feel that there must be some repetition. This is where the application of Hick’s law comes in – “The time it takes to make a decision increases with the number of alternatives.” If there is no repetition, then there is nothing to contrast against, and the information will be lost in a sea of equally loud messages.
Until next time!
