Designing for Emotion Chapter 3
Next up, chapter 3: personality. This chapter was interesting to me and honestly it was hard to find anything I didn’t agree with. Regardless, I was asked to find something I agree with and something I disagree with in this chapter. Below are my answers:
Agree: Something I loved about this chapter was the “design persona” template and example. I think creating a persona in such depth completely designed with the audience’s personality and emotions can really can get people inspired. I agree that any product or service can be seen as a human not just a thing. I find that I connect with the things I buy. In this chapter the author explains how well Apple has done with this. I agree with this and I think Apple has done an excellent job at continually producing human-emotion within their sales of products. The commercials I have seen in recent years with the progression of the iPhone and iPad are filled with personality – a relaxed tone while explaining the newest features that can make your life easier and better.
Disagree: As I mentioned earlier it was hard to find anything that I didn’t understand and agree with in this chapter. Mainly because I see personality as such an important element in creating anything. The one thing I was kind of iffy about while reading was the manner of producing the personality of consumers on websites. By this I mean adding a photograph of a person and including everything you’d like to know about her and expecting to relate. A lot of times when I see things like advertisements that do this I seem to lose trust in that company because I feel like the quote was made up and the person in the photo is a model who is getting compensated for be photographed. I understand the appeal I just personally think there are smarter ways of going about connecting with people and creating a brand personality.
